The Yellowfins are Big and Bad

We’re still making our way through the tail end of Winter and are waiting for the early Spring bait patterns to emerge. The huge Yellowfin Tuna continue to “winter” off of Venice…and they are feasting.

We’re finding Yellowfins weighing from 100 – 180 lbs and we’re getting them to the boat using a combination of live baits, lures and “chunking.” Join Captain James to get on this bite and wear out every muscle in your arms and chest.

Catching Wahoo on our Merry Way

As we make our way out to the Yellowfin grounds, we’re still targeting Wahoo with great success. We’re catching Wahoo that are 30 – 80 lbs on dive baits and other artificials trolled between 6 and 8 knots. These lures have been absolutely deadly and the Wahoo cannot turn them down.

We just have to be careful that we don’t wear out our clients on these screaming torpedoes before we make it to the Yellowfins!

Swordfish Also on the Menu

The Venice Swordfish bite continues its torrid pace with “daytiming” trips producing multiple bites and big fish. The average Swordfish has been 70-150 lbs and there is nothing like an encounter with these prehistoric-looking beasts.

We’re finding Swordfish about 25 miles offshore and we’re getting our clients to the bite quickly and comfortably aboard the Osprey Charters’ custom Yellowfin center console!

Seeing Plenty of Red Inshore

Don’t forget that Osprey Charters is one of the few Venice guide services that can also guide you to amazing Redfish action inshore. We’re running 6-hour trips that are full of light-tackle Redfish craziness!

The February and March redfishing can be some of the best of the entire year! Our clients are catching their limits of five (5) Reds per angler on natural and artificial baits. Then, we make our way to our secret spots to get tight on huge Bull Reds that range from 20 -50 lbs! These Redfish are “over-slot” fish that must be released.

Few things will make an experienced angler weak in the knees quite like making a cast at a waking 40 lb bull Redfish in 9 inches of water!
